Insanity at our Borders

Thousands upon thousands of illegal immigrant children have been pouring into the United States. The government is sending many of them to Arizona, where they are being processed. Needless to say, this is causing a crisis at our borders as agents are overwhelmed and having difficulty dealing with the volume.

According to Customs and Border Protection, as cited in USA Today, 47,000 unaccompanied minors have been apprehended at the border with Mexico over the last eight months. They estimate that as many as 90,000 will cross into the United States this year, most of them from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. They expect another 140,000 next year.

They are being housed at facilities in Arizona and military bases have opened up to take in more children. The federal government will be providing them with lawyers "to protect the rights of the most vulnerable members of our society. How we treat those in need particularly young people who are fleeing violence, persecution, abuse or trafficking goes to the core of who we are as a nation, according to Eric Holder. The administration is also asking for over half a billion to help deal with the border crossings, and another report says the administration wants $2 billion to help support Health and Human Services facilities.

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer is accusing the federal government of dumping the overwhelming number of illegal aliens in her state. Imagine if you or I tried driving a truck of illegal immigrants from anywhere in this country and dumping them in Arizona we would be arrested, mug shots, the whole nine yards. But when this administration does it, it's apparently OK.

According to reports, Almost 40 percent of the Border Patrol Agents are not at the border theyre actually filling out paperwork, transporting, feeding, moving these folks around. So our borders are not secure, as these agents try to deal with the massive influx of illegal immigrants.

This is why border security is among my top five agenda items for conservatives seeking solutions in this country: The Mack-Penny plan, energy independence, a market-based solution for healthcare, choice in education and securing our borders.

Where are Republicans on this issue? Many of them are pushing for immigration reform, but why would they buy into amnesty?

When it comes to this issue, like many others, the Obama administration has simply ignored our Constitution and the rule of law. Enforcing our laws is a matter of choice, not a Constitutional duty to this president.

This story is shocking on so many levels.
